Privacies Infrastructure features a choreographed project by Gwyneth Shanks and Sarah Lewis-Cappellari, which takes the form of a walking procession through private and public spaces in Council District 13, featuring presentations from special guests with 826LA Echo Park Youth Advisory Board, Dana Cuff, Dorit Cypis, Loren Fenton, David Godshall, Grace Lara and Manuel Lopez

Speakers include academic experts of residential zoning laws and the history of racial dispossession in East Los Angeles, a Chicanx artist whose drawing practice includes portraits of Los Angeles’ residential landscape, and Echo Park residents who explore their memories and connections to the neighborhood, amongst others.  The procession examines what it means to pass through a neighborhood, using fences as a means to question the cyclical nature of how neighborhoods undergo change. The performance will culminate in an audience “talk-back” in an empty lot, where visitors and performers alike are invited to discuss their observations and experiences. Following will be the premiere of passing through the bars and over, a dance film devised and directed by Shanks.

The performative walking procession features Gwyneth Shanks, Sarah Lewis-Cappellari, 826LA Echo Park Youth Advisory Board, Dana Cuff, Dorit Cypis, Loren Fenton, David Godshall, Grace Lara, and Manuel Lopez, amongst others.

September 29, 5–7 pm @ location forthcoming.
