We are seeking contributors for our forthcoming online content space.

Materials & Applications seeks submissions for our forthcoming online content space conceived as a laboratory for architectural ideas. This platform extends M&A’s longstanding commitment to architectural experimentation into publishing.

Guidelines

We’re interested in a range of work (surprise us!), including content that: responds to architectural form, material processes, and social conditions; explores relationships created by and through architecture; and experiments with new editorial formats and methods. If we can upload it, we will consider it.

We welcome finished work and proposals across a range of critical and creative formats, from essays to visual media to architectural work. Examples can include critical writing, interviews, built or unbuilt architectural projects, reading lists, drawings/renderings, fiction, poetry, visual artwork, manifestos, or experimental digital formats. It is important to us that each piece offers perspective and a critical engagement with our contemporary world; we will not accept marketing, press releases, or overly promotional content.

In keeping with our organizational mission, we are committed to publishing a diverse range of voices, including those historically underrepresented and underresourced in architectural design and discourse.

We invite you to explore our previous projects and mission to get a sense of our approach and understand if your project will be a good fit.

Work will be reviewed and edited by members of M&A's Content Working Group, and published on M&A’s forthcoming digital publishing platform. Feedback, the depth of which depends on our editorial capacity, will be provided to accepted submissions.

Instructions

For completed works: Text should be a maximum written length of 3,000 words. There is no minimum length. When appropriate, text and citations should follow the Chicago Manual of Style.

For pitches: Include a description (1-3 paragraphs) of your proposed length, format, subject matter, and timeline; and a brief explanation of why it would be well-suited to M&A.

Do not submit portfolios, press releases, or other self-promotional or marketing materials; these items will not be considered for publication.
