This week M&A tours Los Angeles' cultural spaces with Rosario Talevi (@lapistera) and students from Curating Architecture and the Urban. In Curating Architecture & the Urban, students from TU Berlin investigate curatorial practice as an expanded field. Leaving traditional definitions behind, the course encourages students to explore the textures of such practices as they relate to architecture and city-making. Using local case studies that range from institutions, non-for-profit spaces, private galleries, temporary formats, digital platforms and even local government programmes, students come into contact with a wide array of actors, settings, formats, strategies that are re-defining not only a term but the agency of the discipline. Thanks to @5plusdesign for their generous support. #berlin #losangeles #sistercity #knowledgeexchange #culturalinfrastructure

Materials & Applications is proud to announce that we are a recipient of the 2017 @grahamfoundation grant in support of our upcoming project Privacies Infrastructure (and the only LA-based organization to receive the exhibition grant!). We join over 41 other organizations and institutions from around the world in cities such as Paris, Mexico City, Rotterdam, Cleveland, and Chicago. Our project Privacies Infrastructure explores the physical, social, and embodied structures of privacy and privatization in the residential landscape of East Los Angeles by inviting four artists (@beslerandsons , @tanyabrodsky , Fiona Connor , and @gjs1933 ) to observe, respond, and activate through public installation, performance, publication, and programming. This project is organized by M&A director @jiagu and guest curator @aurora__tang . #grahamfunded #grahamfoundation Image credit: Tanya Brodsky, 2016
